Arabian Gulf’s emerging marine leisure hub become a host port

An agreement signed in the United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi, today will see the Arabian Gulf's emerging marine leisure hub become a port for the 2010-12 race. A racing team from Abu Dhabi will also take its place on the start line of the race in Alicante, Spain in the autumn of next year.

Florida, host's start of transatlantic leg to Lisbon, Portugal

Florida has a long association with the event, as this will be the fifth time the sunshine state has welcomed the world’s premier offshore race in the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race . Miami has successfully fought off tough competition from other North American ports, in its bid to win back the event it previously hosted in the 2001-02 edition of the race.

Cape Town, 1st Stopover Port for VOR 2011-12

The racetrack for the upcoming Volvo Ocean Race, due to start from Alicante in Spain in the autumn of 2011, is now set and the first port of call will be Cape Town, South Africa, making its eighth appearance as host to this premier ocean race. This marks the beginning of the port announcement process for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 and the rest of the course around the world will be revealed before the end of March.
