Volvo Open 70s up for grabs as new race boats emerge
28 March 2011 - According to a rule, which is new for the upcoming Volvo Ocean Race, from 16 March 2011, the teams entered in the race can now only sail their 2011-12 race boats. This now allows other potential syndicates to acquire these second generation Volvo Open 70s, including the winning and second placed boats from 2008-09, to work towards being on the startline in October.

Telefonica returns to the VOR To The Most Important Offshore Regatta

Team Telefónica's presence in the Volvo Ocean Race, headed up by Pedro Campos, CEO of Team Telefónica, is part of their broad promotional programme in the sailing world, both on a national & international level. As well as a podium position in the last edition of the event & victory in the in-shore races in the Volvo Ocean Race, their trophy cabinet is host to 15 world titles, 2 gold & 1 silver Olympic medals from the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 & Beijing 2008.

KZ-2 Steinlager 2 to race in Legends

26 April 2011, One of the most important and famous boats of all time, the Farr-designed maxi-ketch Steinlager 2, which, with legendary Kiwi skipper Sir Peter Blake in charge, won all six legs of the 1989-90 Whitbread Round the World Race (the forerunner of the Volvo Ocean Race) will be in Alicante later this year to race in the Volvo Ocean Race Legends Regatta and Reunion.

Galway Man, Frankie Leonard, Appointed as Media Crew Member to Team Sanya

Team Sanya announce media crew member - TEAM SANYA announced today the selection of Frankie Leonard, from Galway, Ireland, as their media crew member who will join the sailing team as they travel around the world competing in The 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race.

Alicante, Spain - July 20, 2011 – The clock is ticking down for the teams in the Volvo Ocean Race, with Thursday, July 21 marking exactly 100 days to go before the first points are awarded in the opening In-Port race in Alicante.
